Poll shows the majority of Brits shun a flu jab

A poll by Kantar's Lightspeed GMI has found 62% of Brits have no plans to get a flu jab this winter. The online survey of 5,203 people found 28% of people have already had the injection, while 11% of people are planning to get it.

Women are shunning the jab in greater numbers than men, with 65% of women saying they have no plans to get vaccinated this winter, compared to 58% of men. 31% of men have already had the jab, compared to 25% of women.

On the 12th November 2015, the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) warned that thousands of patients in England could be risking their health by not having the seasonal flu vaccine. Their data shows, compared with the same period last year ,over 6% fewer flu jabs have been given by GPs, with some family doctors claiming their surgery fridges 'are full' of unused vaccines.

The RCGP are particularly concern are those in 'at risk' groups such as older people, pregnant women, people with learning disabilities and those with long-term conditions such as heart, liver and kidney disease, diabetes, respiratory problems, such as asthma, and carers, who might not be getting their flu jabs.

When we look at our data by age, we can see that older people are much more likely to have had the jab than younger people, 46% of people over 55 years old have already had it, compared to 16% of people aged 18-24 years old. 46% of people over 55 years old say they have no plans to have the flu jab this winter, while 8% are planning to get it but haven't got round to it yet.
